4D ART

Michel Lemieux – Co-artistic Director, General Director Strategy (he/him)
Denis Morin – Operations Director (he/him)

Innovative living and digital art company since 1983

According to Albert Einstein, time is the fourth dimension. In this day and age of digital speed, we often only slip to the surface of things. The mission of 4D ART is first to stop a little, to take the time to explore the depths of the human soul.

Founded by Michel Lemieux in Montréal in 1983, the multidisciplinary artistic company 4D ART already has about fifty original productions in its repertoire. First recognized worldwide, Michel Lemieux’s solo shows establish the creative identity of 4D ART.

Since the arrival of Victor Pilon as co-director of the company with Michel Lemieux, their unique work merges theatre, performance, dance, music, cinema, visual arts and digital arts. The tandem has created mesmerizing creations that magnify reality through the virtual, multiplying the performing arts to new media.

Since 2019, the two artistic co-directors have mainly created solo works. Victor Pilon addresses performance, while Michel Lemieux works on digital installations and experiences in virtual and augmented reality.
In a constantly renewed transdisciplinary movement, 4D ART is totally in line with current artistic relevance.
Lemieux and Pilon’s avant-garde creations have been acclaimed around the world for more than 40 years, both nationally and internationally.

Amélie Barrette

Director, Editor

An emerging documentary filmmaker and editor, she is currently developing her first XR project, Projet SimUlator, in collaboration with XR producer Laurence Wells (art et essai).

Featured project:
PROJET SIMULATOR
Projet SimUlator is an hybrid immersive experience merging documentary and virtual reality developed by Amélie Barrette and Laurence Wells (art et essai). This project aims to validate and educate trans and non-trans audiences, offering a reflection on gender and identity through the prism of video games.

In the current sociopolitical climate, this use of a platform as open and inclusive as Projet SimUlator is anything but trivial. Whether we’re talking about the increasingly restrictive laws in the United States or the “Comité des sages” in Québec, the rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ community members are constantly being questioned and governed by external authorities.

Providing a space for such testimonies and telling these stories through queer voices is of utmost importance. Projet SimUlator contributes to the fight against the wave of homophobia and transphobia currently sweeping the world, all with a gentle, eclectic, and original approach.

Laurence Wells – Producer
